Overview:
Established metals recycling company in the Midwest seeks a dynamic, experienced Senior Trader to join their high-performing trading team. The ideal candidate brings deep market knowledge, strong customer and supplier relationships, and a sharp eye for identifying and executing profitable trading opportunities. This role is integral to expanding the company’s market position, optimizing material flows, and strengthening their presence in both domestic and international markets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage trading strategies for ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals, ensuring consistent profitability and risk mitigation.
- Maintain and grow a network of industrial, mill, and scrap yard contacts to source and sell recyclable materials.
- Negotiate purchase and sales contracts, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry standards.
- Analyze market trends, pricing indexes, and competitor activity to inform trading decisions.
- Collaborate with operations and logistics teams to ensure efficient movement and processing of materials.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior traders and contribute to strategic planning within the trading department.
- Attend industry events and maintain a strong presence in trade associations to enhance company visibility and intelligence gathering.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in metals trading or scrap recycling, with proven success in a senior or lead trader role.
- Strong understanding of ferrous and non-ferrous markets, grading, and specifications.
- Existing relationships within the scrap metal industry (mills, foundries, brokers, etc.).
- Exceptional negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
- High level of integrity, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently.
- Willingness to travel regularly to visit clients, suppliers, and facilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field preferred.
