Overview:
An established Metals Recycling Company in the Upper Midwest is seeking an experienced and hands-on Shredder Maintenance Supervisor to lead all maintenance activities for the auto shredder and downstream systems. This individual will oversee a team of mechanical and electrical technicians, ensuring maximum equipment uptime, safety compliance, and maintenance planning aligned with operational goals.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise day-to-day maintenance of the shredder, including preventative, predictive, and emergency repairs.
- Coordinate and lead major overhauls, rebuilds, and equipment upgrades.
- Ensure safe lockout/tagout (LOTO), hot work, and confined space procedures are followed.
- Collaborate with operations, engineering, and safety teams to minimize downtime and optimize equipment performance.
- Maintain maintenance logs, service records, and CMMS (computerized maintenance system).
- Order and manage critical spare parts inventory; track usage and lead times.
- Train and mentor maintenance personnel on best practices and equipment troubleshooting.
- Support capital project planning and vendor coordination related to shredder operations.
- Ensure all maintenance work complies with OSHA, environmental, and company standards.
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of shredder maintenance experience in a metals recycling
- 3+ supervisory or lead maintenance experience
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, especially with auto shredders, motors, conveyors, hydraulics, and PLC systems.
- Familiarity with AC/DC motors, drive systems, gearboxes, and predictive maintenance tools.
- Experience with scrap processing equipment (e.g., ferrous conveyors, downstream, non-ferrous recovery systems).
- Proficient in reading schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and planning skills.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and respond to emergencies as needed.
