A well-established metals recycling company in the Southeast is seeking an experienced Shredder Supervisor to lead the day-to-day operation of its shredding and material processing operation. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who understands shredder production, equipment, maintenance, material quality, and team management.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working alongside the crew when needed while taking ownership of safe production, equipment uptime, material quality, inventory, and overall shredder performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise the daily activities of the shredder crew, assigning work and establishing production priorities.
- Oversee daily shredder production to achieve safety, quality, volume, and efficiency targets.
- Remain actively involved in shredder operations and be capable of performing or supporting various crew functions as needed.
- Coordinate production schedules based on available inventory, sales requirements, and operational priorities.
- Monitor shredder performance and identify opportunities to improve throughput, recovery, efficiency, and uptime.
- Oversee preventive maintenance activities and work closely with maintenance personnel to address breakdowns, repairs, and parts replacement.
- Identify mechanical or operational issues and assist with troubleshooting when needed.
- Maintain strong quality-control standards for processed material and finished products.
- Monitor feedstock and finished-goods inventory to ensure appropriate material flow through the operation.
- Maintain accurate daily production and inventory records and communicate results to facility leadership.
- Coordinate finished material movement and load readiness with transportation and shipping personnel.
- Maintain high standards for housekeeping, organization, and overall condition of the shredder area.
- Lead by example in maintaining a strong safety culture and ensuring employees follow established procedures.
- Train, coach, and develop shredder personnel while holding the team accountable for performance and safe work practices.
- Adapt production and staffing priorities as operating conditions and business needs change.
- Work closely with facility leadership, maintenance, transportation, and commercial teams to support overall operational goals.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years’ experience working with metal shredders
- Prior experience as a Shredder Supervisor, Shredder Foreman, Lead Operator, Shredder Operator, Production Supervisor, or similar role.
- Strong understanding of shredder production, material flow, quality control, and equipment operation.
- Mechanically inclined with the ability to recognize equipment issues and assist with troubleshooting.
- Experience coordinating preventive maintenance and equipment repairs.
- Proven ability to lead and hold accountable employees in a hands-on industrial environment.
- Strong commitment to safety, housekeeping, and operational discipline.
- Ability to communicate effectively with operations, maintenance, transportation, and management.
- Comfortable working outdoors and around heavy industrial equipment in a fast-paced recycling environment.
