Overview:
As the Shop Manager, you will be responsible for the efficient operation of the maintenance shop for a fleet of 50 ready mix trucks. Your primary focus will be on ensuring the vehicles are well-maintained, minimizing downtime, and maximizing their lifespan.
Key Responsibilities:
Fleet Maintenance:
- Develop and implement a preventive maintenance program for all ready mix trucks.
- Schedule and oversee routine inspections, services, and repairs to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Address emergency repairs promptly to minimize downtime.
Team Management:
- Supervise and lead a team of mechanics and technicians.
- Provide training and support to ensure the team is skilled and knowledgeable in maintaining ready mix trucks.
- Schedule work assignments and manage workload efficiently.
Inventory Management:
- Maintain an organized inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment.
- Monitor stock levels and reorder supplies as needed.
- Ensure that the shop is well-equipped to handle various repair tasks.
- Budget Management:
- Develop and manage the shop’s budget, including labor costs, parts, and equipment.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising on quality.
Record Keeping:
- Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage.
- Generate reports on fleet performance, maintenance costs, and downtime.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure that all maintenance activities adhere to safety regulations and industry standards.
- Stay informed about changes in regulations and implement necessary adjustments.
Vendor Relations:
- Coordinate with external vendors for parts, services, and equipment procurement.
- Negotiate contracts and ensure cost-effective partnerships.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Shop Manager or similar role, preferably in the transportation or construction industry.
- Strong technical knowledge of ready mix trucks and their components.
- Leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Budget management experience.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Education and Certifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree in a related field is a plus).
- Certification in diesel mechanics or a related field is preferred.
