Overview:
We are a large Ready Mix Concrete producer with an established Trucking Division operating approximately 50 dump trucks and 10 cement tankers. The Trucking Division Manager is responsible for leading and optimizing all aspects of the trucking operation, including full P&L ownership, fleet performance, safety, compliance, and customer service. This role supports both internal concrete plants and external customers, ensuring reliable, efficient, and profitable transportation services.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Operations
- Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the Trucking Division.
- Manage daily operations of dump trucks and cement tankers servicing internal plants and third-party customers.
- Develop operating plans, schedules, and utilization strategies to maximize fleet efficiency.
- Ensure coordination and alignment with Ready Mix plant managers, sales, dispatch, and maintenance teams.
Financial Management (Full P&L Responsibility)
- Own and manage the Trucking Division P&L, including revenue, cost control, margins, and profitability.
- Prepare and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and capital expenditure plans.
- Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as cost per mile, cost per load, utilization, downtime, and driver productivity.
- Identify and implement cost-saving and revenue-enhancing initiatives.
Fleet & Asset Management
- Oversee fleet maintenance strategy in coordination with maintenance teams or vendors.
- Plan equipment purchases, replacements, and disposals.
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, inspections, and fleet documentation.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote a strong safety culture across the Trucking Division.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, FMCSA, and company safety policies.
- Review incidents, accidents, and claims; lead corrective actions and continuous improvement efforts.
People Management
- Recruit, train, develop, and retain drivers, dispatchers, and supervisory staff.
- Set performance expectations and conduct regular performance reviews.
- Foster accountability, teamwork, and high employee engagement.
Customer & Internal Service
- Ensure high service levels for internal Ready Mix plants and external customers.
- Resolve service issues, capacity constraints, and scheduling conflicts.
- Support sales and operations teams with pricing, capacity planning, and customer solutions.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in trucking, transportation, or construction materials logistics.
- Proven experience managing a fleet of 30+ trucks preferred.
- Demonstrated P&L management experience.
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations and transportation safety requirements.
- Experience serving both internal operations and external customers.
- Prior experience in Ready Mix, aggregates, cement, or construction materials is highly preferred.
