Overview:
A growing heavy civil contractor is seeking a Field Heavy Equipment Mechanic to support construction operations by maintaining and repairing heavy equipment directly on job sites. This role is responsible for diagnosing issues, performing repairs, and ensuring equipment stays productive and safe in the field.
Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on heavy construction equipment
- Perform preventative maintenance and emergency repairs on job sites
- Service equipment including excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, rollers, skid steers, and trucks
- Troubleshoot hydraulic systems, engines, and electrical components
- Maintain service records and communicate repair needs with equipment manager or supervisors
- Respond quickly to field breakdowns to minimize downtime
- Ensure all repairs are completed safely and according to manufacturer standards
Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience working on heavy construction equipment
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
- Ability to diagnose and repair equipment in field conditions
- Experience with brands such as CAT, Komatsu, Deere, Volvo, or similar preferred
- Valid driver’s license (CDL a plus)
- Ability to travel between job sites as needed
